How we score and test software
Every score on Systemly is editorial. We set tools up, run them through the work a service business actually does, and grade them on five things that matter when you are running jobs. No user-submitted ratings, no pay-to-win.
The five criteria we weight
Weights are fixed in code so they stay identical across every tool we review.
- Ease of use25%
How fast an owner with no software background can set it up and run a normal day. We weight first-week friction heavily.
- Features for service businesses25%
Scheduling, dispatch, quoting, invoicing, and the trade-specific jobs you actually run. Generic CRM polish counts for less.
- Pricing & value20%
The real monthly cost for a typical crew once you add the plan tier and the add-ons you need, not the headline price.
- Mobile app15%
What the field crew gets on a phone: job details, photos, time tracking, and whether it works with a weak signal. iOS and Android parity.
- Support & onboarding15%
How you get unstuck. Channels, response time in our testing, and whether real help is gated behind a higher tier.
Hands-on vs researched
Tools we have personally set up and run carry a hands-on label. Tools we have profiled accurately from vendor docs, demos, and operator feedback but not yet run ourselves are labelled researched. Both are scored on the same rubric, and we never claim hands-on testing we did not do.
Affiliate independence
Some links on Systemly are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. A commission never changes a score, a ranking, or a recommendation. Pricing and specs are verified against the vendor and dated on every profile.
